Blogs are a very effective way to interact with potential buyers allowing you to respond to questions as well as get valuable feedback on your property.  

Below are some of the main advantages and why you NEED to be using blogs in your business:

Easy to Create: Blogs are also very easy and fast to create.  Using one of the offered templates, you can literally have you blog up and running in minutes!   Also with a blog, you don’t need an expense webmaster or pay for any software.  They come built in!  You can choose to spend a few dollars to buy some additional templates or graphics to add a little more punch to your site, but with most applications, this is absolutely optional and the cost is still very cheap.

Little to no Cost: Most of the time when you hear about this great new tool that you just have to have, the very next question is ok, how much is this one going to set me back?  One of the great things about the internet is that many of the new and more importantly, effective tools can had for little to no cost.  There are several great services that will host your blog for free.  The two most popular ones are WordPress and Blogger.  With both sites, you have choices of templates that will make getting your site up and running in no time, with no expense.

Easy to Maintain: Not only are Blogs easy to create, but more importantly, their easy to maintain as well.  You can quickly and easily update your blog from anywhere in the world with a computer and internet connection.  That’s it.  The blog software will automatically put you post in chronological order; allowing you to simply login, post, and leave.  It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Search Engine Friendly: All of this would be meaningless if you didn’t have traffic coming to your site.  Since search engines love sites that provide new content regularly, blogs are ideal for achieving higher rankings which means more potential buyers to your site.  If you take just a few minutes to structure your post to be very focused–keyword focused,  your blog can get high rankings very quickly.

Should You Blog?

I’m often asked by beginners if they should build a website or a blog. My answer is always the same:

“Contrary to what you may have heard, a blog is a website.”

In fact, here’s how wikipedia defines a blog:

“A blog (a contraction of the term “web log”) is a web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video.”

So you see, a blog is indeed a website.

Okay, now that I’ve cleared that up, let me explain why I prefer operating a blog site.

It really comes down to one word – simplicity. I’m technically handicapped, so I really need a simple platform from which to present my views and opinions, and conduct business.

And you just can’t beat the simplicity of a blog. In fact, today’s blogging software takes simplicity to a whole new level. To build a professional looking blog nowadays, it’s basically point and click, and you’re done!

It really is that simple.

When I decided to start my blog, I looked at the three most popular blogging platforms. Google’s Blogger, WordPress and Typepad.

Typepad is a paid service with subscription plans starting at $4.95 per month. Blogger and WordPress are both free services.

After reading information on all three services and doing some exhaustive research, I decided to go with Blogger. Why?

Again, it came down to simplicity. You just can’t beat the simplicity of Blogger’s platform. And Blogger’s boatload of free, easy-to-install features were also appealing to me.

Of course, that’s strictly a personal preference. And the last thing I want to do is sound like a commercial for Blogger. Perhaps you’ll find WordPress or Typepad more to your liking.

Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of the top services. You can build a professional looking blog with either of the three.

And that’s really the point, isn’t it?

So should you blog?

Well, that depends. If you’re opinionated like I am, have something to say and want to share your views and opinions with the world, then you’ll probably find a comfort level with a blog.

But whether you decide to blog or not, if you’re building a website as a “for- profit” enterprise, it’s important that you take it seriously and treat it like a business. Because that’s exactly what it is.

That means approaching your business with commitment and passion. It means paying close attention to the appearance and functionality of your site – making sure it’s user-friendly.

It also means following up with your customers, refreshing your content regularly and concentrating on getting plenty of backlinks to your site.

If you’re not prepared to do those things on a consistent basis, then you’re not ready for a website.

But if you do decide to make that commitment, I look forward to seeing you on the internet!

Why You Should Start an Business With Multiple Streams of Income

They’ve all learned a powerful secret….the power of having multiple streams of income.

Think about it like this….let’s say you have a job, it is your only job. You have one stream of income. Now let’s say you lose your job…now you have no income. But what if you had 3 jobs. If you lost 1 job, you would still have two. Things aren’t as bad now, are they?

The same concept can be applied as a business model for small business online. But when you have a business making money online, you can create multiple streams of income without having to work 3 jobs.

How?

Let’s say you found a product to promote through an affiliate program. Write some articles about it, do some marketing, and soon you start making some sales. You might think it isn’t worth your time and effort and then give up on your hopes of making a good income online.

If you do that, though, you stopped to soon. If you stop to soon, you will fall short of starting an business online and working from home.

The real secret is to get a promotion up and running, set it on autopilot, then do another, then another and another. Wash, rinse, repeat. When you learn how to make money the easy way, starting an business will be much more rewarding ( and fun! ).

Let’s say I create a blog. This is super easy to do on Google’s Blogger. WordPress is another good site. I find a service or product at places such as Clickbank or Commission Junction to promote. Now I blog on those items, doing reviews, maybe posting sometimes about problems those products can solve, or what have you. Next, add Google’s Adsense ads to my blog. Maybe I throw in related products from Amazon.com. I could also link to other items within my blog posts that I am affiliated with. I just created the potential for multiple streams of income just on that blog. Next I promote it with a few articles submitted to directories. Then I eventually make a little money.

The great thing is, once I have done that, my site can be run on autopilot with almost no future effort required, and will continue to pull in some money. Let’s say I make $50 per month with the site.

So now if I have this site running itself, and I know I can make money with a website, why would I not make another and do the same. Then another, and so on? You can start to see the potential here.

If you set it up right, and there is a way to do that, you could create multiple streams of income that will last you years to come with very little effort after the initial startup.

If even doing that much is too much work for you, there are other ways as well, including having your own money making website setup for you. Look around….the internet is full of any service you can imagine.

Having multiple streams of income is essential if you desire to become a full-time internet entrepreneur. If one stream of income goes bad, you still have others. If you don’t make big money on any one stream, it is still possible to make a good income on all of your income streams combined.

What are some services or products that you like and use. Become an affiliate of each and promote any chance you get in your blog, your articles, your website, wherever.

If you do this consistently, you will be on the way to making multiple streams of income for yourself. Starting an business online can be fun and rewarding

Marketing Your Business on the Internet 101

Even if you know how important it is to market your business on the internet, you don’t have thousands of dollars to spend each month, and you may not be an expert on Search Engine Optimization or Keyword Advertising (yet).

This article is about using consistent, free (or cheap) marketing strategies that you can start using today to make a difference in your business.

The Goal of marketing your business on the internet is to get consistent traffic to your site from your target market.

The three key words to remember about internet marketing are Consistent, Targeted, and Smart.

~Consistent marketing practices will help you build a trusted presence on the web, and catch people who visit the same sites regularly. New people are always suspect, and you may not start to get results until you’ve been around long enough for people to trust you.

~A Targeted strategy will focus on the type of person who is most likely to be interested in your product or service. If your ideal customer is a truck driver between 40 and 50 years old, you should not be marketing to young single moms on Myspace.

~Smart marketing means using the tools the big kids use. Do some research to discover what the successful marketers are doing to get crazy high traffic, and do that. My mentor Walter Hailey always told me that “It’s easier to copy genius than to create mediocrity.”

It will take time to create the kind of web presence that will generate consistent traffic (and revenue) for your business, but as long as your effort is targeted, consistent, and smart, you will attract quality customers without spending thousands of dollars or hundreds of hours of your time.

Let’s get down to specifics – what can I start doing in my business tomorrow that will put me on the path to generating more traffic for my site and putting more money in my pocket?

I will assume that you already have a website for your business, and a professional email address with a unique url (not generic like yourname@gmail.com or business@yahoo.com). If you don’t have one yet, you can get one free from Google. Your next step is getting your business name, image, and content onto the web where your target market will find it and become a customer/client.

There are three main categories of marketing strategies to investigate as you are creating a marketing plan: Networking, Blogging/Article Writing, and Advertising.

1. Social or Business Networking. Become a part of a networking community where you can build your own profile or web page and interact with others in the community. There are a ton of networking sites on the internet, some of which are mostly for socializing about niche topics, others are more focused on doing business. Choose 3-5 networks to join, and make sure all of them are connected to each other, and back to your website.

Here are a few to get you started: Facebook, Myspace, Squidoo, Twitter, LinkedIn, Direct Matches, Shmoozii, Biznik

2. Blogging and Article Writing. They go together like peanuts and raisins. Every article you write for the blog should also be published on the web to as many article directories as possible, with your link included in the resource box. The more places your link appears on the web, the better. Update the blog frequently, put an RSS feed on your website and social networking profiles, and tell your friends about it. Search engines love fresh, new content that matches keywords, so including keywords in the blog content can help searchers find you.

Google’s Blogspot is a great way to get started if you have never had a blog before. WordPress, Squarespace, Typepad, and Thoughts.com are easy to use, have professional looking templates, and can be set up in a few hours.

As for Article Directories, you can submit by hand, but I wouldn’t recommend it. People getting real results with article writing have an automated service that submits articles to hundreds of directories automatically. I have found two: SubmitYOURArticle (web-based) and Article Submitter Platinum (Software). They are not free, but they are worth it if you choose article writing as one of your marketing strategies.

3. Advertising using Adwords, keywords, pay-per-click, or traffic exchanges. Although it is less personal, advertising gives you access to a vast number of people for a relatively small cost – and most sites have free trials or sign-up bonuses that can help you create an ad that works before you start paying for it. Use the same keywords that are on your website and blog in your advertisements, and search engines will like you even more.

My short list of Advertising sites would include: Adland Pro, Bananapile, ReaLook, Spiderjump, and HitsFrenzy. Also look at Clickable – a service that can manage advertising campaigns on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and others simultaneously.

Using a few of the services from all three of the above categories in tandem will create a tight web to capture your customers and send them to your site. As long as you update Consistently, Target your campaigns accurately, and be Smart about where you spend your money and time, you can see results in a little as a few weeks and secure your long-term success.

Best of luck with your research, stick with it, and remember that even in the tedious moments, owning your own business is so much better than going to work at 9am in a job that doesn’t fulfill you.
